Education
History
Since staging the first Mercosul Biennial, in 1997, the Mercosul Biennial Foundation has invested in democratizing access to contemporary art, the formation of mediators to better serve the visiting public, the availability of free transport for public schools visiting the Biennial, art workshops and the expansion of the partner network formed with the school community in the Greater Porto Alegre region. In 2007, on the occasion of the 6 th Mercosul Biennial, the Education Program reached fresh heights, marking a new phase for the Mercosul Biennial Foundation in staging projects as a whole.
This represented a break in paradigms in the history of the Mercosul Biennial that, since then, has taken on the form of a global education project. Among the actions that comprise the Education Program are meetings for training teachers, artistic residencies, talks and debates with artists and educators, art education symposiums and scheduled group visits during the Mercosul Biennial. The goal is to make a real contribution to qualifying art education in Rio Grande do Sul, overstepping assumptions of art being limited to the artistic object and focusing instead on educational actions in the processes and thoughts that take root through questions raised through art.
